An Early 19th Century Straight Sided Rum Measure

The slightly tapering drum, with a loop handle, stamped for half a gill. Also to the side is a Victorian verification mark for weights and measures.

It is often thought that these straight sided measures were for naval use.

English, circa 1740.

Provenance – from the collection of a highly regarded Essex metalware collector.
